W M A C ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL

November 9th, 2012

WMAZ radio went on the air in October 1922 from the campus of Mercer University. The first radio station in Macon, and the third in the state of Georgia, the station’s rich history was documented through classic programs and interviews with former employees during this two-hour program. Gary Guntor, a former announcer at WMAZ who also worked for Georgia’s first radio station, WSB in Atlanta, narrated this documentary. The program ran during the station’s anniversary in October, 2000, in cooperation with U.S. Broadcasting, owners of WMAC (formerly WMAZ) at that time. This historic retrospective won a “Gabby” award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
